"Economic Impacts of Restricting Trade in Services|

This excercies aims to assist the Indonesian Government in evaluating the economy-wide impacts of restictions limiting the trade in key service sectors. Services are a substansial part of the economy so gains the services sectors can have substansial and far-reaching effects. There is a consensus that the economic gains from reducing trade barriers to services would be large and warrant the attention of policy makers. We utilize the best techniques currently available to estimate the economic impact of the regulations that govern the services sector. The relationship between these regulations and the prices of services can only be inferred indirectly and are based on Services Trade Restrictiveness Indices (STRIs) and Tax Equivalents (TEs) and are analyzed using a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. This framework provides a basis to examine alternative policy reform scenarios.
