Made in Indonesia: How Global Importers Can Get the Best of Indonesian Products
""Indonesia will not be complacent as we have aboundandt natural resources,"" Said Yudhoyono. He denied that the economic growth of Indonesia, which is rich of natural resouces, utterly depends on these natural resouces. He assures that Indonesia will make efforts to erase this myth of dependency. ""We are not going to use natural resources irresponsibly. It is undeniable that Indonesia is widely known as a country with plenty of natural resources. In fact this archipelago country is the world's second largest exporter of thermal coal, the world's first largest exporter of palmoil, the world's second largest producer of cocoa, the world's second largest producer of tin, the world's fourth largest reserve of nikel, and the world's largest producer of bauxite. Many people, so far, think that Indonesia's average economic growth of more than 6% is sustained by raw resources export, beside its quite high domestic consumption. It is based on the reality that up to now, commodities such as coal, crude palm oiol, natural rubber, copper, tin, nickel, and other are recognised as Indonesia's main export products. However, as the progres goes, this notion is merely a myth. Study result of Mc-Kinsey Global Institute in a report entiled ""the archipelago economy; Unleashing Indonesia's potential"" states that the role of natural resources export has been proportionally decreasing as the role of investment and consumption increasing. According to export data, globalised made-in-Indonesia manufacture products are numerous. These are not raw resources like mined-minerals products which reserves is going to run out, and its usage will be harmful to the environment. Nevertheless, these are high-value products in the from of semi finished goods or finished goods which have been processed through some production stages, namely a process that requires innovation, technology, as well as trained human resources. The products, that are covered in this book entitled ""made in Indonesia,"" has been widely known abroad to have as high quality as the grade of products from competing countries. They include the products of textile and garment, footwear, pulp and paper, motor vehicle tyres, electronic, automotive, food and beverages, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, furniture and so forth.
