The evolution of trade relation has played a crucial role on the history of mankind from ancient times, but the development of international trade cannot be explained by mere economic reasons. The examples of the travellers in the famous Silk Road or the Venetian traders and Marco Polo, who travelled in unknown remote regions not only to ""discover"" them but also to establish new trade links, are thus not only part of the history of economic relation.Trade has been and is often a prerequisite for building economic and political relationships between different region and countries. Close geographical, cultural and political relations between countries are normally supplemented by economic cooperation and good trade relations, and can even lead to deeper economic integration arrangements. It was only during the 20th century and mainly during the past 50 years that trade has become the ""engine"" of economic growth, and at the same time international trade has changed in nature from mainly bilateral trade in commodities and industrial products to a wide spectrum of tradable item and ttrading mechanisms and patterns.
