This survey profiles the European Union (EU) market for automotive parts and components. The surveys cover all parts, components and accessories for automotive vehicles, agricultural and horticultural machinery, and mobile equipments. Automotive vehicles include cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles, buses and trailers. Agricultural machinery include tractors, harvesting equipments and horticultural machinery. Mobile equipments includes equipments for material handing; fork lift trucks, lifts, skip hoists and other lifting equipment. Most attention in the survey is given to parts for automotive vehicles, as this group encompassed 97% of all consumption. The market for parts and components can be divided into two main segments: the supply to the ""original equipment manufacturer"", known as the OEM market, and the after-market. Both markets depend on developments in the vehicle market. During the past three years, total sales of new cars have been slowly rising, and reached 15,6 million vehicles in 2006, quite near the record highs of 1999. Performance in the various EU countries differed strongly. Many factors influence the level of sales of new vehicles in a country; most important is the influence of GDP per capita and the annual growth of GDP. The car park in the EU is growing steadily. Annual growth was between 1,5% and 3% for the past six years. The total car park in 2006 numbered over 227 million cars. Growth rates in the new EU member states (EU 12) are much stronger than in the other EU member states (EU 15). Consumption of parts and components, as derived from Prodcom statistical data, is calculated at f 300 billion in 2006. Consumption of parts and components showed a strong rise from 2002 to 2006. A compound growth of almost 3% was achieved. After a fall of 5% in 2003, growth picked up again in 2004 with a 6,5% increase; this was continued in 2005 and 2006, when consumption grew by 4,5% and 6,4% respectively.
