Knowing how to use statistics to solve social problems is a crucial competence for students and academics. To gain and develop such a competence requires us to understand the underlying mechanisms of statistical techniques (linear regression, factor analysis, etc.) as well as learning to use flexible and user-friendly software for performing them. We humbly try to help the reader achieve these two salient goals with the current book by elucidating the logic behind each statistical technique and providing actual applications using Stata software. In explaining the different statistical techniques, we use linear regression as our overarching framework based on our motto that 'everything is regression'
